Both materials are heavy and unforgiving of a poor template, which is why we measure your kitchen ourselves before anything gets cut. The stone is shaped off-site to match that template precisely, then installed by hand, typically within 5 working days.
Marble in particular needs a gentler touch day to day: wipe up wine, citrus or vinegar before it has a chance to etch the surface, and use a board rather than cutting directly onto it. Granite is more forgiving but benefits from the same habits. Cared for properly, either will outlast the kitchen it's fitted into.
